Well, October is upon us, and I’ve started talking about fall, decorating for fall, and wearing my fall sweaters. I know, the changing of the seasons always feels a bit early in the blog world. This happens because of the algorithms we bloggers try to “please” plus our goal of getting content out as early as possible so you can enjoy it when the timing is right for you.
Since 2020 has been a rough year, we may have even more reason to be looking ahead to fall. For some of us, a Pumpkin Spice Latte or a trip to the pumpkin patch may be just the thing to take our mind off the world for a bit. If it makes you happy (and doesn’t hurt anyone), I say go for it!
In spirit, this is a classic old fashioned recipe but with a couple of substitutions. Instead of sugar, I’m using maple syrup, and instead of orange and cherry, I mixed apple cider in. These subtle changes give the classic a fresh profile that is PERFECT for fall.
As some of you may already know, I am typically a wine or whiskey fan. But for fall I’ll make an exception. My go to bourbon is made here in my home state it is the Few Spirits Single Barrel Bourbon.
For maple syrup, I decided to be adventurous and try Sourced in Nature CBD Maple Syrup. Your cocktail will be equally delicious. If you don’t have this particular maple syrup, don’t worry. Your cocktail will be equally delicious. Just make sure you use REAL maple syrup.
Now that you have an idea of some of my favorite ingredients for this Cider and Maple Old Fashioned recipe, let’s whip one up.
HOW TO MAKE A CIDER AND MAPLE OLD FASHIONED
This cocktail couldn’t be simpler to make. Since I like my drinks as cold as possible, I like to put this together in a cocktail shaker. If you don’t have one, you can just add all of the ingredients to a rocks glass and give them a good stir.
To a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add the bourbon, pure maple syrup, apple cider, and orange bitters. Then shake up the mixture to cool and combine.
INGREDIENTS
5 ounces bourbon
1 ounce pure maple syrup
1 ounce apple cider
4-6 dashes of orange bitters
Cinnamon sticks to garnish
INSTRUCTIONS
To a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add the bourbon, pure maple syrup, apple cider, and orange bitters. Shake to combine.
Strain into two rocks glasses filled with ice and then garnish each with a cinnamon stick.
