Time management is SO important if you are serious about your career or own a business. Some days it feels like there is just not enough time to balance work and personal life.
I’m going to share with you these tried and true tricks to use when the To-Do list feels never-ending.
CREATE A MORNING ROUTINE
Developing the perfect morning routine for your lifestyle is the key to productivity. A successful morning routine helps set the tone for the rest of the day, it’s better to control your schedule than let your schedule control you. Take a look at any successful business mogul or powerhouse, they all have rituals.
TIME BLOCK
Do you ever wonder where the day went and what you actually accomplished/did all day? Or maybe you try to do too many tasks at one time, hopping from your inbox to Instagram and trying to write a blog post and back to your inbox. If this sounds like you, then this productivity hack is going to be your saving grace.
Say goodbye to multitasking, time blocking is the art of concentrating on ONLY one given task at a time. Set a timer for 30 minutes and reply to every email you can in the given time. Make sure to prioritize the top emails first. Once the timer goes off (don’t you dare try and switch tasks early) can you move on to the next task. Simple, but absolutely genius for motivation and productivity. I use time blocking for almost every activity I do, from planning social media content to cleaning my kitchen. The key to time blocking is to make sure you turn off ALL distractions (this might mean turning off your phone and allowing yourself time to focus.
BATCH YO’ TASKS
It doesn’t matter what industry you are in, you need to be time batching! This tip is crucial if you want to improve your productivity.
For instance, at Mija Marketing we have a creative block on Sunday mornings that is entirely dedicated to creating content for our agency. But you could literally do this for anything you need to get done. Have recurring meetings each week? Batch them back to back on all one day. Need to shoot photos for blog posts? Shoot every photo you need on one day instead of doing a few throughout the week.
CREATE A TO-DO LIST (THAT WORKS)
Whether you’re a pen and paper kinda gal or you use a fancy app, there is no one size fits all. Finding a system that works for you is the key to getting your sh*t done. At Mija Marketing I used AirTable you can organize and track so much — from your daily routine to your long-term goals. I also use Slack when working with teams or bigger businesses to keep track of what needs to get done under what category. Slack integrates with so many other apps which is super handy.
SET THE TONE
I’m a huge vibes person when it comes to getting sh*t done. If you’re like me, you need a designated space with a candle or two (or three), a beautiful green smoothie or coffee, and all the desk accessories to feel inspired. I even take it a step further and blast some music. Depending on what I am working on I will play anything from jazz, soul, to rap.
